I know its's last minute but dude mix your track, lots of mud and clash. So much mud in the low end that you have to eq out. It's hard to listen to and the track lacks clarity. Make sure to high pass all sounds that are not supposed to take up space in the low end.

ChillyBite responds:

I agree entirely. I think the foundation is fine, but it's about as polished as a rusty prison shank. I'm definitely going to go back and mix this properly.

I love the atmosphere you created! The bass synth that is like a horn is epic and intense af, i love it so much, but I think you shouldn't use it too much or else it loses its meaning (only use it in buildups and important parts). The composition is nice but it can use some more countermelodies other than the reverb synth in the background to make it more interesting. The mix is pretty good but sometimes it can sound pretty cluttered and hard to understand what is going on (mostly because that bass sound is pretty loud and taking up the entire frequency spectrum). Overall, I really enjoyed this cinematic piece! Good luck in the contest!

Thanks so much Clockbeat! I appreciate your great review and feedback. ^_^ I'll go back to the shop for my next one!

Very good cinematic work! Love the atmosphere you create but be careful of the amount of reverb you put on each instrument, it gets a little muddy in the mids and some of the lows. Use more eq, many sounds are clashing with each other, especially with those drums that take up almost the whole frequency spectrum. But the composition is excellent, you would be an amazing composer for movies if you learned how to mix better, and try investing in some better string and brass sounds (although I myself don't have very good string and brass sounds I know that it will pay off for you in the future). You have a lot of potential, keep up the good work ;)

SplatterDash responds:

The reverb has been the one thing I included a lot on this, and the more I listen to the second half the more I realize that was a mistake. Funny enough, I still have yet to really introduce myself fully to EQing, as Live Lite only includes an EQ Three which I barely use. The drums were also one of the things I was worried about making this - in both pieces that inspired this, the drums are really out there, which is what I aimed for in this, but I also wanted to be careful as I couldn't compress it (there would be weird fades around the drums if I did) and considering how limited my options are for production... yeah. Still, thank you for the advice! Hopefully I can enter into something like NGADM in the future and get myself some better strings or brass from that lol

Really nice, very well mixed, but could maybe use some more variety with lyrics instead of repeating "top it up i love cheesecake every 4 bars". But really?!?! Do you really love cheesecake this much? lol keep up the good work

Shidfayce responds:

Yeah i agree that it could've used more lyrics, maybe ill add more eventually in future versions lol! Thanks for the feedback though and yes, i love cheesecake this much, cheesecake is everything!

many parts are so repetitive, the beat stays the same for so long, 4:10 is just a sped up version of 1:53, theres no melody change, and it just sounds hideous. theres no break for the bass. the bass just goes on and on and on, which makes it super boring really quick. it only feels good when theres not a lot of bass and all of a sudden the bass drops. but this is painfully repetitive and boring in my opinion. i love that kick, but if you use that too long the power of that kick just fades away. the snare sounds pretty weak (not quiet, i mean weak sounding). this song is not that great to be honest.

BlueNexus responds:

Thanks for listening! Your feedback is appreciated!

Ooh, gives me chills, really creepy and interesting music and story! I can see how it relates to the art it was inspired by. I liked how you used different scary sounds and effects to create tension. I also liked the panning you did for the vocals, it was really interesting to have a soundscape that sounded all around me from all directions! Good job, I really enjoyed it! :)

SmokeAvery responds:

Thanks, looking at that picture I fell in love with it. As i'm talking courses on Unity3d I look forward to bringing it to life in the future!

Really interesting and unique story you're telling here! I really enjoyed it! And you also really scared me when dubstep came out of nowhere and you surprised me at the song somehow became edm. Lol, really nice song, good job!

Miyolophone responds:

Haha, I'm happy you liked it! You know it's not real music unless you SCARE SOMEONE

I decently liked it, but it got really boring when you repeated the same chord progression from the start of the song until 1:35. At first, the the chord progression was really nice and that high "squeaky" synth was good, but it got really boring at around the 1 minute mark, and i also didnt like that you used that same "squeaky" synth for almost the whole song. You really impressed me with the interesting chord progression at the drop, but that same chord progression went on all the way to almost the end of the song, which made it eventually boring. I feel that this song could use some bass to fill in the low-end too. But overall, I think your song was good but could be improved in many ways.

DipperMcFlipper responds:

Thanks! I made this a long time ago so thats why it needs alot of improvement.

Really nice! If you want a tip for mixing, make sure you get rid of unwanted frequencies in a sound using EQ so it doesn't interfere or "fight" with your other sounds. If done right, your sounds/samples will sound more clear and cleaner because there are not as many different sounds playing at the same frequency. (I hope this makes sense to you?) For example, if some of the lead frequencies are interfering with the bass, it will make the bass sound less clear because it's "fighting" with your bass frequencies to "sound out" and the same thing with the bass frequencies fighting with the lead frequencies. If you eliminate the unnecessary frequencies with EQ (because your lead doesn't need low freq and most of the time your bass doesn't need high freq) it will sound cleaner. Sorry if my explanation is not that clear to you, I think you should be able to find a better explanation somewhere else. But I really liked this song, keep up the good work! :)

Chliz responds:

I understand, for now on I'll focus on cutting equalizing correctly. Thanks for the review!

Good job! I really enjoyed it! It was a good chill song, and I dont mind a random white noise coming out of nowhere because its not your fault. If you really want to make music, it could be worth it buy it, its up to you. If you are REALLY crazy, I use a software called Ableton, and they provide a discount for students if you are one. Keep up the good work!

JollyGD responds:

Thanks! I don't actually have money so I'll probably stay in this music producer called "MuLab". I'll try to gain money soon if I have time and buy Ableton. Anyways, thank you so much!

16 y/o music producer that makes music as a hobby, hoping to be a professional, "real" one, in the future.
